Good day mom's and mom's-to-be!

Today's topic was submitted from a reader. What do you do with moldy bath toys?

As I'm sure all you mommas know sometimes our children's bath toys can become full of mold, especially the rubber ones with holes at the bottom. Sometimes you don't notice it until you hand it to your child or you're child's already playing with it in the bath and you realize there's some weird black pieces floating around in the tub with them. I know what you're thinking, gross, ew, that's disgusting. But the truth is, it happens.

According to themaids.com " Mold can cause respiratory problems, allergies and other health problems if it’s not contained. And while mold affects people of all ages, it can wreak havoc on those with weak immune systems such as children. "

Have you noticed that a lot of rubber bath toys have that small hole on the bottom to release water? I'm sure we've all played with our child and sprayed them from the hole under the rubber ducky, it's a really fun game and children love it. But have you noticed that you can never really get ALL the water out? Because you can never fully empty it the moister gets trapped in there and causes mold to form.

But I'm here to tell you that you don't need to throw out all those fun bath toys that have holes in them! There is a much simpler solution that I've found! If you have a glue gun you can easily block the hole with a dab of glue! Easy fix! If you don't have access to a glue gun (especially since we can't go shopping do to the virus) and you notice a toy starting to get a bit moldy, you can boil it in vinegar. Mix together 1 gallon of water with ½ cup of white vinegar and let the toys soak in this solution for about an hour. Give them a scrub once the mold is loose and then let them dry. (if the hole is big enough, I've found that you can use one of those little straw cleaners)

If you just absolutely hate the thought of your children's toys ever having mold in them you could always go for the plastic toys or simply just the ones without the holes. My mother in-law bought Finley this amazing turtle that floats! It free of any kind of harsh chemicals and has no hole, so no mold!

Do you want to see some non-molding bath toys that wont break the bank? Head on over to the Recommended Products section where I've posted some fun bath toys for your little ones!
